My stay at Cathedral Quarter Hotel was a mix of positive and negative experiences. The staff were friendly and attentive, providing exemplary service. However, the hotel seemed to cut corners, affecting cleanliness and the overall experience, especially the breakfast quality. The location was ideal, but the issues I faced made it feel like a 3-star hotel at best.

Rooms
6.0
The room was clean and comfortable, but there were signs of neglect, like remnants of previous guests under the bed and damp spots on the bathroom ceiling. The TV reception was lacking, limiting my plans to watch the Olympic Games, which was disappointing.
Service
7.0
The staff were pleasant and helpful, but some were clearly new and inexperienced, which caused delays during check-in. Despite this, they did their best to provide a good experience.
Location
8.0
I loved the hotel's location right in the centre of Derby, making it easy to explore. With all the important venues nearby, I appreciated being able to walk to so many restaurants and shops.
Dining
5.0
Breakfast was self-service and offered limited options. As a vegetarian, my choices were quite basic, and I missed the quality and variety I had experienced at other hotels. Dinner was better and well-presented, giving a glimpse of what the dining could be. I think they really need to step up their breakfast offerings.
Facilities
5.0
The communal areas felt uninviting and lacked comfortable seating. While renovations are underway, it still felt a bit unloved. Plus, there was no wifi in the rooms, which was quite inconvenient.

5.4/10

I had a mixed experience at Cathedral Quarter Hotel. While the building has a lovely character and my room was comfortable, several aspects of my stay left much to be desired. From the inconsistent service to the disappointing dining options, it unfortunately didn't meet my expectations.

Rooms
6.0
My suite was lovely but had some issues. The bathroom windows didn't close properly, which was a bit inconvenient. On the plus side, the secondary glazing helped with noise.
Service
5.0
Service varied throughout my stay. The check-in process was frustrating, as I encountered an unhelpful receptionist at first, though a later staff member was much friendlier.
Location
8.0
The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Derby with easy access to the city center, shops, and restaurants. Plus, parking was convenient, offering a discount for hotel guests.
Dining
5.0
Dining was disappointing. I had an uninspired dinner and breakfast that felt like it was mass-prepared. The lack of some fresh options was quite noticeable.
Facilities
5.0
The hotel has an intriguing historical charm, but it feels like it's in need of some serious upkeep and renovation. Basic amenities like consistent heating weren't fully reliable during my stay.

7.4/10

I enjoyed my stay at Cathedral Quarter Hotel, though it wasn't without its flaws. The location was perfect for exploring Derby, and the staff were incredibly friendly. However, the room could have used more light and was a bit chilly at times.

Rooms
8.0
Our room was small but comfortable, with a cozy bed for a good night's sleep. The bathroom was recently refurbished and had a great shower, though it could use some additional lighting.
Service
Location
9.0
The hotel boasts a fantastic location, being centrally located near shops and restaurants. It was easy to access all major venues within walking distance.
Dining
8.0
I found the breakfast to be freshly cooked and delicious, with no complaints at all. However, I did expect a side of vegetables with my dinner, which was a bit disappointing.
Facilities
7.0
The hotel includes a parking option nearby, which was secure and convenient. However, some information about hotel services was lacking in the room.

6.8/10

My stay at the Cathedral Quarter Hotel was quite a mixed bag. On the positive side, the location is excellent and my room, although showing some wear, was quite spacious and comfortable with a pleasant coffee machine. However, I faced issues with the air conditioning and the lack of basic amenities like towels in a disabled room. Overall, it had its merits but also quite a few downsides that made for a less-than-ideal experience.

Rooms
5.0
The room was spacious with heavy curtains, but the air conditioning didn’t work and there were no towels provided in the disabled room. The decor felt tired, and cleanliness was questionable with dust present.
Service
6.0
The staff were friendly and helpful, yet they seemed overwhelmed and could not assist with luggage transfers between rooms despite the heat. Management could improve for better support.
Location
9.0
The hotel’s location was excellent for accessing Derby town centre, with plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. It’s a charming building with original features.
Dining
6.0
Dining offered a mixed experience; while the breakfast was decent, the dining room felt empty and eerie. Service was slow, and the dinner options weren’t nice.
Facilities
5.0
Facilities were somewhat lacking, as the bar had limited offerings, and there was no iron in my room. The current refurbishment could greatly improve the overall guest experience.

7.0/10

I had a pleasant stay at the Cathedral Quarter Hotel, thanks to the charm of the building and the comfort of my room. However, my experience was marred by a few service issues, particularly with the reception staff who initially made me feel unwelcome. The dining experience was lovely, with great breakfast options, but I did encounter some minor hiccups with the WiFi. Overall, it's a boutique hotel with its quirks, but it has potential. 😊

Rooms
8.0
My King Room was clean, warm, and the bed was incredibly comfy. However, some amenities like the TV placement and lack of a heater initially detracted from the experience.
Service
6.0
I found most of the staff courteous, but my interaction with the receptionist was frosty and unwelcoming, which set a disappointing tone for my visit.
Location
7.0
The hotel is perfectly situated for exploring Derby, close to shops and restaurants, but the overall tired condition of the building was a bit off-putting.
Dining
9.0
Breakfast was the highlight, particularly the full English using quality ingredients. The atmosphere was cozy, making it a nice way to start the day.
Facilities
7.0
While the hotel offers a charming atmosphere, the WiFi was unreliable during my stay and there were some maintenance issues noticeable around the hotel.
